Who We Are

Our History and Mission

Before 2005, no organization in Napa County focused on the needs of children with disabilities.

Parents of a few of those children got to know each other in doctors’ office waiting rooms, at school board meetings or block parties, and did their best to support each other by sharing information and referrals, but they were often frustrated that they didn’t have a way to reach other families and help more children.

Finally, on July 1, 2005, a group of parents of children with disabilities launched the Napa Valley Child Advocacy Network, Inc., now known as ParentsCAN, dedicated to supporting families of children with disabilities.

Twenty years later, that original concept--parents helping parents--remains the foundation of ParentsCAN.

ParentsCAN’s professionally trained staff are all parents and close family members of kids with special needs. They share their knowledge and experience with others so that all Napa's children with disabilities can have a better future.

The ParentsCAN Mission:

Every child's journey is different. We partner with and guide parents when challenges arise in their child's education, health, behavior or development, so children can reach their full potential.
